Tonight I saw Judith Butler speak and I sat in a room surrounded by hundreds of babely queer folk and I walked into the theater and sat down and got teared up looking around and seeing all the beautiful people around me. I have never felt more at home, more surrounded by people I understand, and…
In this post, we can observe how feminism isn’t so much an intellectual or political movement but a 21st century replacement for religion. The protagonist of this anecdote is overtaken by euphoric joy at being in the congregation surrounded by fellow believers, she feels an ecstatic admiration for the priest, who gives her an intellectually vapid humanist pep-talk on the faith she has of people escaping the perceived malaises of modernity. The modern feminist or queer is, essentially, a suburbanite lonely white girl looking fervently for a sense of community and bonding that is compatible with contemporary social expectations of individuality, rebelliousness, and parting with traditional social groups.
do you even understand what the word “religion” means? you’re a fuckin dumbass. a person is allowed to be happy to see an intellectual she admires speak and meet likeminded people at an event and be happy about that too. that in no way makes it a “replacement for religion”.
for that matter, do you even know what “feminism” means? go read a fuckin book or something before you start posting stupid shit all over the internet. or if you still feel like you need to voice your retarded opinions, go harass people more on your level of intelligence on 4chan or youtube comments sections.
fuckin idiot.
A religion is a system of faith or worship. I’d guess that the main differentiation between feminism and religion is that religion tends to be organized in coherent and concise metaphysical frameworks while feminism tends to be plastered up willy nilly into a highly contradictory mess by the whims, desires, and half-baked thoughts of its members. They share the disdain for science, the passion, the sense of bonding and community, the fervent adherence to prescribed ethical codes, and the preference for rhetorical appeals to emotion/sympathy. Feminism is like religion, but hip and incoherent.
Reblogged so people can see how incredibly, mindblowingly stupid you are. You are absolutely helpless. If you’d like to actually be educated on this matter, either go read a book, contact me privately, or even wikipedia something for fuck sake.
In the meanwhile, I’ll just have to post this a buncha places for everyone to laugh at.
